About Us

Founded by baritone Geoffrey Di Giorgio in June 2020, Opera NexGen is an entirely remote and virtual operation. We pride ourselves on having a team made up of progressive artists and administrators who adequately reflect the demographics of our industry. For us, this looks like everything from never having audition fees or age limits for applicants, to maintaining leadership that represents all voices and identities of artistry. It is our goal to help introduce opera to the next generation by the next generation. While still programming pieces from the standard canon as means of necessary training for artists and to serve as entry-level for new audience members, our focus is also around new and contemporary works. We are working to explore works by unfamiliar composers and stories to our performers and patrons that are often overlooked.

In addition to producing operatic performances, we also highlight conversations surrounding artists’ struggles and aim to fulfill the educational gap for a successful career through our webinar series. A fruitful journey in this industry is often a result of access to resources which only a select group may obtain. We believe that talent and work-ethic should prevail, and want to support all artists by supplying them with the tools for triumph. Our past workshops have addressed topics such as: budgeting as a freelancer, body discrimination onstage, and branding oneself for means of hireability.

Internally, our team has grown rapidly, but maintains a level of authenticity and passion for the core purpose of our mission: to ensure opera is accessible for years to come.
